My overall takeaways from this trip were profound. I selected this program as a way to not only discover new ways to improve the healthcare system in the U.S., but to validate the preconceptions that I had of where our system was failing. Generally speaking, my experience here has furthered my interest in working in the healthcare innovation industry, as I have come to realize how deeply rooted our problems are and how much restructuring

not only of how we treat healthcare as patients but what motivates practitioners within the system as well. Costa Rica does not thrive off pharmaceutical drug profits or sky high private provider bills, but from a generally high health determinants due to the public access, ability to study medicine affordably, and the incorporation of holistic and natural medicine.

I hope to take my knowledge of what I have observed here and work to support the system that we have in place in the US at the moment, as significant change will take time. I am excited to tell my family my newfound skills both associated with medicine and my own personal growth, as I am beginning to identify what my own morals and ideals are.
